UNTITLED MIRROR 4

A Fazzi Film

I ask Sam, who is settled beside the fire, if he will carry Untitled Mirror 4 outside and hang it on the wall of the house. He does not ask why, and lifts his sculpture off the wall, carries it into the hallway and out into the dusk. We position it with care.

Up a bit … left a bit.
Where?
There.
Are you sure?

I wait, watching the silver of the mirror as it darkens. I watch the reflected full moon rise, knowing that whatever is being recorded is beyond what I can see. A single frame captures the swoop of an owl, and as I wait, the creatures of the night begin an accompaniment, as if they have been waiting for this moment, for the moon and me.
