Unico Fluttuante Oggetto / Unique Floating Object

Left : Lacquered poplar
Right : Patinated silver mirror
Each: Diameter 25 cm
Italy, 2010

A series of suspended forms using found and hand-made objects, arranged as imagined three-dimensional star systems.

Flowers tethered to the earth by their stems, talking some unknown language to creatures they never see. Stars hanging in space by invisible forces tempting us to organise them into images of gods. Objects floating in space do strange and wonderful things.

A ‘constellation’ emerged after I made several single works with stars and flowers in mind, creating a galaxy of forms that I suspended from the oak beams of our living room. Some forms were solid, others transulucent, and gradually I began to make shapes that were illuminated both from without and within.
